Commander Kid
Commander Kid follows Jack, the neglected and abused son of a disreputable businessman whose bad dealings finally catch up with him, bringing both their relationship and his life to an abrupt end. When another man takes ownership of everything the businessman leaves behind, he makes the unexpected decision to take responsibility for Jack as well. At first, the boy is simply another loose end to deal with, but Jack’s intelligence quickly comes as a surprise—and ultimately becomes the very reason the man decides he may be worth keeping around. As Jack grows older, however, that same intelligence gives him the ability to understand far more than anyone intended, gradually uncovering the darker side of the business and the people connected to it. The more he learns, the harder it becomes to simply accept the life that has been built around him, and as he matures, Jack will be forced to make some increasingly difficult—and sometimes harsh—choices about who he wants to become and what he is willing to do with the truth he discovers.
